Materials
Preparing materials for rebuild:
At this stage the focus for preparing construction materials is put on preparing the timber joinery for the rebuild. The deconstructed timbers are stored at the (fumigated) 20ft container in West Melton and from time to time I drive from Nelson up and down to pick up at trailer load of joinery to be prepared.
The preparation of the timbers is a time consuming job.
I work at my own, almost meditative pace and I like to work meticulously.
I can keep going, work long hours but enjoy every minute of it.
The Joinery is paint-stripped, sanded, repaired, sanded and oil-ed before put into storage in a 2nd 20ft container in Rai Valley.
The finishing touch of the joinery will be to be done once reinstalled.
The tin pressed ceilings require paint-stripping.
I stripped paint with a heat gun and with chemical paint strippers but I am not happy with the test results so far.
Currently I am looking into a cryogenic paint removal option (using liquid nitrogen) and another option could be dry ice blasting.
Cleaning and cutting the Oamaru stone will need to be done on the building site.
So at the preparation stage the cleaning the Oamaru stone is a research item.
