38 Front door frame and Bathroom wall
Front door frame and Bathroom wall: 11 May / 28 July 2017
The timber front door frame and beats are made of Kauri, the sill is Jarrah and the panel infills are Rimu.
The door frame was painted on the outside and still had the original varnish finish on the inside.
Once the 1930's alteration was built, the front door became an interior door; hence the fact that the front door framing had not weathered.
Broken glass pieces in the lead-glass panels are repaired.
After being cleaned, the lead-glass panels are packet carefully and put back into storage.
The feature timber framed wall was painted at the Bathroom side, the Hall side still had the original varnish finish.
I had removed the colored glass window infill during deconstruction and this window was stored separately. VT
Internal moisture in the Bathroom had softened the timbers.
The T&G on the Bathroom side was beyond repair and was removed during deconstruction.
The "churchy" V-shaped T&G at the Hall side had a few borer damage boards which are replaced.
Light:
For rebuilding the house, the plan is to open the Bathroom to the sky by not putting a ceiling back in (it was damaged anyway) but by building a skylight as big as the Bathroom, into the roof.
Through this skylight and through the colored glass window I hope/expect to be able to bring (colored) daylight into the "dark" Hall at the center of the house.
