36 Marble Fireplace Surround

Marble fireplace surround: 10 / 26 March 2017

The fire place surround in Bedroom 1 was made of a reused, much older, Victorian marble surround (refer to paragraph 13)
The marble surround came off nice and easy in three sections
At the back of one of the sides I found a “Muschamp” signature.
The original (gib) mortar had disintegrated due to water exposure during deconstruction; the sections had fallen into pieces of a puzzle.

After cleaning the marble pieces, I reassembled the sections.
A proper fire-proof cement sheet was used as backing and an appropriate marble tile glue was used instead of a gib mortar.

Before putting the prepared sections back into storage the pencil "Muschamp" signature was traced.
